Uganda Independence Day

Uganda gained her independence on October 9th 1962. Since 1894 she was a British protectorate that was put together from some very organized kingdoms and chieftaincies that inhabited the lake regions of central Africa.
By 1959, Uganda had 16 districts and at the time of independence in 1962 one more district was created. In 1945 Uganda divided into four provinces of Buganda, Eastern, Northern and Western. The provinces were sub-divided into districts In 1962: Uganda became independent on October 9.

National Heroes Day

Uganda National Heroes Day honors all those who sacrificed themselves to better the lives of the Ugandan people. Unfortunately, the holiday is one of the most divisive days in the Ugandan year. What constitutes a hero, and who specifically should be honored, are matters of debate in the country.

Martyrs day Celebrations

The Uganda Martyrs are a group of 23 Anglican and 22 Catholic converts to Christianity in the historical kingdom of Buganda, now part of Uganda, who were executed between 31 January 1885 and 27 January 1887. They were killed on orders of Mwanga II, the Kabaka (King) of Buganda.
